About the workshop
The four-hour workshop intensive will break down the VSCK style of footwork for the Pendulum. The objective of the workshop is to give the practitioner the skills to utilize the Pendulum in their own practice to improve their movement and learn how to hit without being hit.
What makes Sonny’s style unique are the principles of movement and evasiveness—always being a hard target. How to hit and not get hit. Sonny developed this skill set by creating what he called the Pendulum. And I’m happy to share what I consider to be the hallmark of VSCK with you.
The Pendulum is an essential learning modality and training tool in VSCK. Stand-up fighting is all about how successful your exchanges are against your opponent. The fighter who is more skilled in controlling the fight is more likely to have successful exchanges. With the Pendulum, we learn to master the elements of control: distance, timing, angle, and pace. Sonny’s concept of the Pendulum benefits not only VSCK practitioners but anyone seeking to master these elements.

My goal is to ensure everyone is competent in using the Pendulum, knowing how and when to enter, strike, and exit an exchange. The beauty of the Pendulum is that it provides the practitioner with the repetitions to become proficient in moving, striking, and evading. The Pendulum falls in the middle of the spectrum between drilling and sparring. It has the control of a drill with the randomness of sparring. It gives us a platform to experiment and learn. The Pendulum is the oscillation of forward and backward movement. Cooperatively recycling your entries and exits. Learning timing and range. Learning on to be on beat so we can later break the beat. All of our training mounts onto The Pendulum. You can do the Pendulum with or without a partner
